Evaluation of Genetic Variability of Durum Wheat Genotypes Based on Physiological Characteristics in Drought Conditions Using the GGE-BIPLOT Method

Authors

Abstract:

In order to study the genetic variability based on the physiologic and drought tolerance indices of 20 genotypes of durum wheat, an experiment was carried out in research farm and physiology laboratory of Agricultural and Natural Resources Campus of Razi University of Kermanshah, Iran, in a randomized complete block design with three replications under stress and non-stress conditions in 2013-2014. The results of analysis of variance for different agronomic, physiological and biochemical traits showed that the effect of genotype on the characteristics of water stored in cut leaves, water use efficiency, stomata conductance, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll, grain yield, activity of catalase enzymes, peroxidase and superoxide dismutase were significant. Comparison of mean of different traits showed that genotypes 20, 5, 3, 1, 12 and 13 had the highest values. The correlation analysis in drought stress revealed that the grain yield with chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll as well as relative water content had a significant positive correlation with photochemical efficiency of photosystem II. Significant negative correlation was observed between the water stored trait of cut leaves and the level of activity of the enzyme superoxide dismutase. There was a significant positive correlation between chlorophyll a content with chlorophyll b and chlorophyll content as well as between chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll. The GGE-BIPLOT showed that the genotypes 5, 6, 20, 9, 2, 3, 10, 4, and 19 were identified as superior genotypes for studied traits. Such comprehensive information on genotypes is important for converting them to cultivars and introducing them to farmers, as well as choosing parents for hybridization.

Evaluation of Agro-Physiological Characteristics and Drought Tolerance in Some of Durum Wheat Breeding Genotypes

In order to study of agronomic, physiological characteristics, drought tolerance and to identify  Agro-physiological traits associated with drought tolerance, 19 durum wheat genotypes consisting of 17 advanced breeding lines and two control cultivars (Saji and Zahab) were evaluated in a randomized complete blocks design with three replicated under both stress (rainfed condition) and non-stress ...

Evaluation of Seed Yield Stability of Chickpea Genotypes Using GGE Biplot Method

In this study, 14 advanced chickpea genotypes selected from regional experiments with Adel and Azad, as control cultivars, were cultivated in a randomized complete block design with three replications in eight environments (Gonbad, Gachsaran, Ilam and Khorramabad in three, two, two and one years, respectively) in Iran during 2017-2020 growing seasons. Combined analysis of variance showed that e...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Efficiency of screening techniques for evaluating durum wheat genotypes under mild drought conditions

The main objective of this research was to evaluate fifteen durum wheat (Triticum durum) genotypes selected from joint project of Iran/ICARDA for drought tolerance using several indices. The trials were conducted under moderate levels of drought stress for three cropping seasons (2004-2006) in four locations in the highlands western of Iran. The combined ANOVA for grain yield over years and loc...

Genetic Diversity of Genotypes of Durum Wheat (Triticum Turgidum L.) Genotypes Based on Cluster and Principal Component Analyses

Genetic  diversity  is  the  basis  of  the  natural  evolution  of  plant  breeding  and  biological  system  are  important  components  of  sustainability. The aim of this study was to evaluate 116 genotypes of Triticum turgidum from seven countries in terms of morphological traits. The results showed that high significant differences among the genotypes. The correlation between gra...
